Life after an OSHA Citation: Turning a Black Mark into a Better Workplace

OSHA citations happen: the agency conducted 35,000 inspections in 2015 and cited 65,000 violations for a range of common hazards. The facilities that come back strongest from a citation are the ones that go beyond hazard correction to establish a culture of safe work practices.

HAZWOPER: HAZMAT Labeling

Hazardous materials and waste are part of many work situations, and can be found on many types of job sites. OSHA feels that it is so important for maintenance technicians to know how to recognize these potentially dangerous substances (as well as how to handle and dispose of them properly) they have mandated that anyone working with these materials receive comprehensive training in this area.

TPC Training Systems is authorized by IACET to offer 0.1 CEUs for this program.

In 1976, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) to regulate the handling of hazardous waste from cradle to grave. Since then other regulations have followed, including OSHA's 29 CFR 1910.120, also known as HAZWOPER. As part of these regulations, there are varying requirements for employee training, depending on an employee's specific level of involvement with hazardous materials.

TPC Training Systems' online and safety video training products on "HAZWOPER: HAZMAT Labeling" help employees understand different labeling systems and how to use these systems to reduce or eliminate potential exposure to hazardous materials in their work environments.

Topics covered in this industrial safety course include:
– Where hazardous materials labels are used.
– OSHA labeling requirements.
– Common labeling systems.
– DOT AHazard Class Labels and Placards.
– The Hazardous Materials Identification System (HMIS).
– Target organ information labels.
– The National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) Labeling System.
– Hazardous waste labels.
– and more.
